Timber Stand Improvement
Timber Stand Improvement is defined as: A forestry practice that improves the quality of a forest stand by removing or deadening undesirable species to achieve desired stocking and species composition. TSI practices include applying herbicides, burning, girdling, or cutting.
A common forest management goal of many landowners in Tennessee is to grow “high-quality” hardwood timber. Timber Stand Improvement is one of the first steps to take to achieve that goal.
